Durban Int’l Film Festival screening 3 Iranian features

The 38th edition of the Durban International Film Festival has screened three Iranian feature films.

‘A Long Day’ directed by Babak Bahrambeygi, ‘Off-Key’ (NAKOOK) directed by Amir Pourkian as well as Amir Abedi, and ‘The Sis’ (Abji) directed by Marjan Ashrafizadeh as well as Mohammad-Hossein Qasemi are the Iranian features at the South African festival. The films compete with 95 films from other countries.

Written by Payam Nasser and Bahrambeygi, ‘A Long Day’ went on screen at Howard College Theatre on July 14.

It tells the story of Shaheen who pays a short visit to his hometown after returning to the country after years. He unwittingly becomes involved with one of his brother's business adventures and tries to work his way forward to resolve the issues, but he faces a new dimension of the story.

‘Off-Key’ will go on screen at Maharani Hotel and BAT Centre on July 19 and 21, respectively.

It is about a young boy who recently abandoned chemical dependency ward and lives with his mother. The boy tries to communicate with his father that left home several years ago.

‘The Sis’ will enjoy two screening sessions at BAT Centre on July 18 and 22.

It is about a mother and daughter who have lived together for many years; almost 50 years. Their situation, however, does not last long, and the day of separation arrives. The separation happens when the daughter heavily depends on her mother due to her special conditions.

The 38th edition of the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) is slated for July 13-23 in the coastal city of Durban in South Africa.
